Introduction to Parenting explores the parenting beliefs and styles of each parent to create a common and consistent foundation for raising their children; introduce the 3 stages of parenting and developing a plan to facilitate the needs of the child’s emotional development and learning techniques to speak from the heart when confronted with stressful situations.
Introduction to Parenting class is a pre-requisite for the following classes:
Being the Caregiver to Your Child (Birth to 3yo); $75-95/single; $125-$150/couple
This class is the first stage for helping you to set the foundation for the development of your child. It prepares you for going from full caregiver into Community Well Practitioner Information the next phase of managing the behaviors of a toddler. It will teach you the skills and techniques for helping the child learn to make good decisions and be responsible early. Role plays will be used to help you practice before implementing. Phone consultation will be available for parents to access during the week between classes to assist in the learning process.
How to Manage your Child - Adolescent (4yo - 12yo); $75-95/single; $125-$150/couple
Transitioning the parenting style based on the emotional needs of the child will help make raising them more fun and less frustrating. By shifting from a Caregiver role to a Managing role will help you to strengthen the child’s self-esteem and confidence and prepare them for the teenage years. This class will teach you the techniques and theory behind the shift. Role plays will be incorporated to help you practice before actually implementing. Phone consultation will be available during the week between sessions to answer any questions.
Techniques for Guiding Your Teen to Adulthood (13yo - 18yo); $75-95/single; $125-$150/couple
Teenage years are the most challenging for parents. If the foundation has not been set prior to these years, the challenge will be greater. During this segment, you will learn about the emotional needs of the teenager, how to best address those needs, speaking so you will be heard and explore the challenges you will encounter as a parent and how to overcome them. Role plays will be implemented to practice these skills before using them at home. Phone consultation will be available during the week between sessions.
Sharon Tom is the founder of 'Ohana Resource Group, a family mediation and parenting organization. She has been a practicing mediator for close to 20 years and has trained judges, police officers, attorneys, politicians, teachers, and parents the fine art of effective communications for 18 of those years. She teaches an alternative way of dealing with anger, frustration and conflict through mediation and restorative justice techniques.
